File Detail & Review
Overview
File Detail is a full-screen media review tool for images, video, audio, and 3D. It opens when you click a file in an asset's file list (and from Explore). It provides frame-accurate annotation, status triage, side-by-side comparison, and review submission.
Media Viewer
- Images — pinch (or ctrl+scroll) to zoom, two-finger scroll or drag to pan, double-click to fit; Draw and Crop turn it into a canvas you can save an edit from
- Crop — drag out a box, then drag inside it to reposition or grab a corner / edge handle to resize; an aspect ratio, once locked, is kept through both
- Crop rotation — the round grip above the box turns it to any angle (hold shift to snap to 15°); the saved crop comes out upright, straightened, with black behind anything that overhangs the plate
- Video — playback with scrubbing and frame extraction (saves the current frame as a PNG with timecode)
- Video info — the ⓘ button in the video toolbar shows resolution, frame rate, duration, frame count, codec, bit rate, audio stream, and file size, read from the file on the server; on local-share projects it shows what the browser can tell (resolution, duration)
- 3D — .glb / .gltf render inline; other formats show a placeholder
- Audio & documents — dedicated panes for playback / preview
Video Transport & Loop Range
The video player has its own transport bar under the scrub bar: go to start/end, step a frame at a time, play/pause, shuttle speed (0.25x–4x), loop, and volume.
To study one section, set a loop range: park the playhead and click IN (or press I), then park it at the end and click OUT (O). Playback then cycles between the two marks instead of over the whole clip.
- The range is drawn on the scrub bar with amber handles — drag either handle to adjust it, or re-press I / O to re-mark at the playhead.
- The readout on the left of the transport bar shows in → out and the range duration; click either timecode to jump to that mark.
- The loop button (or R) turns cycling off — playback then stops at the out point instead of wrapping.
- Clear the range with the ⌫ button or X; loading another file clears it too.
Review Annotations (video)
On video, annotations are pinned to a frame. A marker strip on the timeline shows where notes exist; use + Comment to leave a note at the current frame, or ✎ Draw to sketch an overlay that reappears whenever you scrub back to that frame. Annotations are stored as real, team-visible items on the asset.
Status Management
Each file has a review status shown as a color-coded pill. Change it by clicking, or with number keys:
- 1 — New (gray) — not yet reviewed
- 2 — Selected (blue) — chosen/approved for use
- 3 — Published (green) — finalized
- 4 — Dropped (yellow) — rejected
- 5 — Reference (purple) — internal reference for generation, not a deliverable
- Enter — cycle to the next status
Publishing opens a small publish note field beside the version chip — say why this is the one, or what changed since the last version. Enter saves, Esc skips; it never blocks the publish. The note shows on the chip afterward (click it to edit), in the asset's Published tab and in the editorial version picker, and it's readable by the Assistant. Loft also records who published and when; the Published tab shows both.
Filmstrip & Filtering
A filmstrip below the viewer shows every file in the set; the active file has a blue border and each thumbnail carries a status bar. Click a thumbnail or use the arrow keys to navigate. Status filter buttons narrow the strip to one status; while a filter is active, arrow navigation skips non-matching files.
When the viewer was opened from somewhere that wants a choice back, a Select button sits beside the file name. It is not the review status — it hands the file on screen back to the opener: from the file browser it ticks that file in the list and closes the viewer.
Compare — A/B
Click the compare icon to compare two files. A is the current file (blue), B is the comparison (amber):
- Hover a filmstrip thumbnail: click its left half to load it into A, its right half into B (Shift-click also means B)
- Side by side — two panes, each with its own status control; the sync icon locks the two videos together
- Wipe — both files in one frame under a vertical divider; drag anywhere to slide it and reveal A under B. Videos play in lock-step with one transport
- Swap (in the wipe header) exchanges A and B
Right Panel — Tabs
- Notes — collaboration notes
- Submit — send the file to dailies for team review
- Context — curated metadata for the file: prompt, model, source tool, seed, EXIF-derived fields, and role tags that affect how the image is used in later generations
- History — the generation history for this item, with regenerate
