# Workflow: Assemble a Cut

_LOFTai › Workflows_

## Goal

Turn a set of shots into an edited sequence and render it — keeping it in sync as shots get new published takes.

## Steps

- In the Editorial library, create a cut asset and open its Editorial tool.
- Add clips — each references a shot "slot" with a frame-accurate in/out point.
- Arrange the sequence: drag clips to reorder, trim in/out on the timeline, and preview with Play timeline on the toolbar.
- Watch the conform badges (Live / Updated / Range / No take) — they tell you each clip's state against the shot's latest published take.
- Try a take in the cut: in the timeline player, step through the shot's takes in place (↑/↓ or the chevrons). The shot's Selected candidates appear ahead of its Published versions, marked SELECTED. Nothing changes until you choose — Use pins a published version; Publish turns a Selected candidate into the shot's latest publish and the cut conforms to it.
- Work on a shot without losing your place: Work on shot in the player opens that shot's Files showing its Published takes and Selected shortlist. The shot page shows Back to <cut>, which reopens the cut's player at the same clip and frame.
- Use the Actions menu on the toolbar for everything else — Add clips, Inspect frames, Export video / EDL, Turnover, Download package… (full or update-only), and Save version / Version history.
- Render to .mp4 (and a CMX3600 .edl). Outputs appear under the cut's Editorial Files tool.
- When a shot gets a new published take, the cut auto-conforms — re-render to pick up the change.

Tip: Because clips point at slots rather than frozen files, you assemble the edit once and it keeps tracking the newest approved work. See Editorial.
